SIGNS YOU NEED AN OIL CHANGE
Every vehicle will require numerous oil changes throughout its lifetime. The engine relies on oil to keep parts lubricated and aid in temperature control of the engine. Without it, the engine would destroy itself from the friction caused by the components grinding against one another. The frequency of oil changes will depend on your driving habits, the type of oil your vehicle uses, and how much you drive. It is not always easy to know when your vehicle needs an oil change. Here are some warning signs to look out for that indicate its time to change the oil:
- Burning Smell: Your engine will naturally burn off some oil from the high temperatures the engine produces. However, if you are regularly smelling a burning smell, your oil levels are likely low. You will need to check your oil levels and add oil as needed. This likely means that your current oil has reached the end of its life. You should consider changing your oil.
- Low Oil Level: As your oil is used, the chemicals within it break down. This causes it to get burned off more quickly. This leads to low oil levels and this means it is probably time for an oil change.
- Warning Light is On: This is an obvious sign that is hard to miss. If your oil indicator light is on, you likely need to change your oil. Do not wait too long as this can lead to your engine getting damaged.
- Louder Than Normal Sounds: Oil lubricates the engine. In doing so, it also reduces the noise that your engine produces. If your engine is louder than normal, your oil may be to blame.
- Irregular Sounds: Your engine will always produce sounds. It is a machine that is producing immense power and heat. However, if you notice an irregular knocking, ticking, or vibration, your oil may not be performing anymore.
- Exhaust Smoke: If you notice smoke coming from your muffler, your oil is no longer useful. You should change your oil quickly to avoid engine damage.
